2007 San Diego International Comic-Con Coverage

Hasbro first unveiled images of the new toys at a slideshow presentation in which they previewed a new smaller scale line (2 Inch) tentatively called "Adventure Heroes" (which is much like Hasbro's current line for Star Wars called "Galactic Heroes"). This line is aimed at younger kids and are essentially hero/bad guy duel two packs. On the slideshow they showed pictures of the following "Adventure Heroes" Two-Packs:

Indiana Jones with Jacket and German Mechanic

Indiana Jones without Jacket and Cairo Swordsman

Sallah with Torch and Skeleton/Cobra

Belloq in Ceremonial Robes with Ark and "Lost Soul"

Which can be seen here in the slide:

For the older collector and those who want a line more true to the vintage lines Hasbro also unveiled the starting lineup for the 3 3/4 Inch toyline as well. In the slideshow presentation Hasbro showed the following figures:

Indiana Jones in Jacket with Pistol and Idol

Cairo Swordsman with Sword

Monkey Man with Monkey

Belloq in Ceremonial Robes with Staff

Marion Ravenwood with Frying Pan and Sword

Interestingly enough each of these figures will come with an artifact of sorts either from the movies or from real artifacts. It may be worth speculating here that each of these figures may not be packaged with the same artifact everytime. Hasbro may choose to randomly insert different artifacts into the same action figure's packaging in order to spur collectors to buy multiples. This is possible because they have been doing with with the current Star Wars line for some time now. This is just speculation though. Hasbro slide shown here:

Later Hasbro unveiled the prototypes of some of the pictured toys as well as a few new ones. For the "Adventure Heroes" line they showed the Indiana Jones with Idol and Whip, Sallah with Torch and Marion Ravenwood with Monkey. As shown here:

They also showed the prototype for the 3 3/4 Inch Belloq in Ceremonial Robes and unveiled two new 3 3/4 Inch Action Figures. One of Indiana Jones with no jacket and Sallah with Torch and Shovel. Our friend Martin learned from one of the Hasbro representatives about an interesting feature of the Indiana Jones figure on display. Apparently he has a "whip cracking" feature (much like the vintage Indiana Jones figure) and that there will be another Indiana Jones figure in the line that will be "super-articulated". Figures shown here:

Here is another faraway shot of the display case showing the prototype figures on display:

On the last day of Comic Con Hasbro unveiled an articulated and highly detailed prototype of a 12 Inch Indiana Jones, shown here:

Hasbro's unveiling at Comic-Con has answered a number of questions and left room open for speculation in the process. First of all, there can be no doubt that they will be producing toys from all four films. From the sampling of what they have showed it seems that Hasbro will be releasing these in waves at a time and each wave will pertain to one of the films. This is already the method of release that they have developed for their current Star Wars line. It can be assumed then that they will probaby try and get at least one wave from each film released prior to the release of the new film's toys.

Second, it seems Hasbro is drawing a lot of its intial inspiration from the vintage Kenner's Raiders of the Lost Ark's toyline. Odds are then that we will be seeing remakes of other figures (and possibly playsets) from the vintage line in Hasbro's intial offering of toys in January 2008. I would wager that there will at least be another Belloq as well. This will be either confirmed or denied over the coming months as Hasbro provides information or stuff leaks out.

More information will be posted on here if anything else comes to light over the last few days of Comic Con. In the meantime you can view larger images of the toys Hasbro showed in their slideshow over at Toy News International here.

Very special thanks again to Martin Smith for the photos and Hasbro coverage.
